Best Time To Visit Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary

Best Season: November to June:

Visiting the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary should be made during the time of the year between November to the beginning of June because the weather is favorable, wildlife comes out, and all the portions of the forest can be used to go on safaris and take nature walks.

Winter (November to February):

• Good weather and cool mornings and pleasant afternoons (temperature: 8 C to 25 C).
• They are convenient in visibility and are ideal for bird watching particularly migratory species.
• There are more sightings of wildlife that can be found basking in the sunshine.
• Suitable for photography, boat safari, and a quiet walk in the forest.

Summer (March to early June):

• It gets warmer (and as much as 40 degrees Celsius), and the wildlife becomes easier to spot along rivers and lakes.
• There are tigers, elephants, and other animals that meet at the rivers and watering holes.
• Boat safaris are also the most common during this season to sight Gangetic dolphins and Gharials.
• Safaris are better seen with less forest cover.

Not Recommended- Monsoon (July to October):

During monsoon (usually between July and mid-October), the sanctuary is also closed because of:

• A turbulent weather that converts the roads and the safari tracks into impassable rivers of mud.
• Slippery terrain and flooding the additional risk factors.
• Wildlife also goes into the breeding season and becomes scarce.
• It is unsafe to enter during monsoons because the forest becomes lush and green whereas there are dangerous animals and visitors can only enter the forest during winters and summers.

Travel Tip:

In case the tour plan involves Dudhwa National Park, Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, or Bardia National Park (Nepal) among other destinations, the best month to visit to be able to cover all the areas and in the hope of experiencing maximum wildlife sightings is between November and April.

Sanctuary Closure Notice:

Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is also closed during the months of June 15th to November 15th of each year as it is that time of the year during which it is rainy and the breeding season.
