When to Visit Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary for the Best Jungle Experience
A visit to the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary at the appropriate time of the year can turn out to be everything when it comes to wildlife. Katarniaghat is situated in Uttar Pradesh, Terai, and is affected by tropical and subtropical climates which makes the surrounding areas quite attractive to tourists and nature enthusiasts in general.
Best Season: November to June:

Winter (November to February):

Summer (March to early June):

- There are tigers, elephants, and other animals that meet at the rivers and watering holes.
- Boat safaris are also the most common during this season to sight Gangetic dolphins and Gharials.
- Safaris are better seen with less forest cover.
Not Recommended- Monsoon (July to October):
During monsoon (usually between July and mid-October), the sanctuary is also closed because of:
- A turbulent weather that converts the roads and the safari tracks into impassable rivers of mud.
- Slippery terrain and flooding the additional risk factors.
- Wildlife also goes into the breeding season and becomes scarce.
- It is unsafe to enter during monsoons because the forest becomes lush and green whereas there are dangerous animals and visitors can only enter the forest during winters and summers.
Travel Tip:
In case the tour plan involves Dudhwa National Park, Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, or Bardia National Park (Nepal) among other destinations, the best month to visit to be able to cover all the areas and in the hope of experiencing maximum wildlife sightings is between November and April.
Sanctuary Closure Notice:
Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is also closed during the months of June 15th to November 15th of each year as it is that time of the year during which it is rainy and the breeding season.
